FEBC Rallies Christian bloggers together

It was the tip of an iceberg, the boot-strapping of a program, the spark of a wildfire, the front act of a concert, the first cry of a revolution– but no matter from which angle you look, it was just the beginning of something big.

FEBC - so you think you can blog

The first-ever fellowship of Christian bloggers

On the evening of July 18, 2011, the training room BM06 of Greenhills Christian Fellowship witnessed the unraveling of a wonderful plan to stage a godly revolution towards achieving the Great Commission in online format, that is, to make Jesus known in the blogosphere — a dream come true for every Christian blogger present in that room. Under the banner of Christian brotherhood, FEBC spearheaded the first-ever fellowship event for Christian bloggers in the Philippines, with a challenging title: So you think you can blog.

Prior to this event, every serious Christian blogger shares one common dream — to be connected with other Christian bloggers and be part of a concerted effort to share the gospel of Jesus Christ in the cyberspace. But the challenge was, there’s no common place to rendezvous with fellow “blog-soldiers for Christ”. And in the era of social networking sites where the word “Christian” was reduced to a word just to say someone has a religion, it is extremely hard to find people who genuinely follow Christ just by looking at their Facebook profile.

The event started with a prayer, followed by the ‘Human Bingo’ game to break the ice, although there was really no ice to break because everyone warmly networked with one another already at zero hour as if they knew each other for long. Oh how good it really is when brethren’s dwell together in unity!

Pastor Ef Pallorina, Communications head of Far East Broadcasting Company, hosted the rest of the event with his wittingly fun and engaging hosting skills, so fun that the participants believe he could run his own stand-up comedy — hands down. Each bloggers where called up-stage and given time to share about their passion, their motivations and what they blog about.

In less than 3 hours, the atmosphere of godly companionship motivated every talented individuals in that room to happily pitch in ideas into a concrete plan to give a bigger voice for Christian bloggers, united with a common passion to proclaim Jesus in a medium where sharing the gospel of Jesus is just a click away.

The ideas were unstoppable. Excitement builds to a peak. Joy overflowed. The passion for blogging intensified.

To compliment the event, the whole activity was streaming live via ustream.tv while brewed coffee, aka the blogger’s bestfriend, flowed freely. Sugar rush was also generously provided in boxes of donuts to the delight of every sweet-loving bloggers.

The night was capped with “class pictures” and exchange list of blog URLs before we left with a small memorabilia and a list of names to add to our Facebook friend request list. Some of the people I met were Stef (http://godspotted.com), Bernie (http://www.bernieponge.blogspot.com), Belle, Mighty (penstalker.com) and my favorite couple, Mr. William and Susan Abbott, who run an advocacy for Brain Tumor patients in Facebook. (I promise to help them transfer their page content into a free WordPress account).

The event may have ended quite too soon, but for those present that evening in Training Room 06 of Greenhills Christian Fellowship, this is just the beginning of something great, far too great for any limited mind to comprehend what the Lord is planning in the days to come.

To my fellow bloggers, I’m glad to meet you in the Fellowship of Effective Bloggers for Christ.
